Why did we Citizen’s Arrest this Oil Exec? We have a dossier of evidence showing this oil executive could be β€œIntentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance, contrary to section 78 of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022”. Vice President Legal of Perenco, Jonathan Parr has been in a senior position at the oil company for 19 years. Police at the scene promised to look into our evidence. So what are his crimes? Polluting our seas. Parr played a role in an oil spill into protected British coast, disrupting businesses, beachgoers, and protected ecosystems. Parr is responsible for their legal operations but in March 2024, 5 people at a Gabon Oil Platform were killed in a fire due to Perenco's lack of safety culture. At the same time Perenco were fined Β£225,000 and issued sanction notice by North Sea Transition Agency for exceeding limits on venting (i.e. releasing methane into the atmosphere). But we know fines alone don’t stop these criminal activities. The dossier also highlights that the oil executive is responsible for 7 million times more carbon emissions than the average UK citizen, every year. Perenco is also currently being audited in the DRC over their oil and gas exploration in the region. Residents and various NGOs have accused the firm of polluting the environment through its oil spills, improper burial of toxic waste, and natural gas flaring that’s impacted residents’ health and livelihoods.
