I was so excited when @memriverparks created the #TomLee Poetry and Spoken Word Contest in 2022. I’ve had the pleasure of celebrating #TomLeeDay with them since before the contest even started.
This day is always so special to me. Not only because we’ve worked with local schools to create a meaningful partnerships through which Memphis students can learn about an important part of their history…but because Tom Lee’s family is always a part of the celebration, and so is our community.
The new #tomleepark 🛝 🦦 🏀 was built on the values Tom Lee displayed 100 years ago TODAY…those of courage, humanity and generosity…when he rescued 32 people from potentially drowning in the Mississippi River.
The icing on the cake today was seeing the debut of a new short film “Shine On: The Story of Tom Lee,” by @lastbitefilms recounting that historic day. Today was truly a special time. We had a little family reunion! ❤️🥳🫂🥂☀️ I’m one blessed lady. 🥰👏🏽💃🏽🙌🏽 🌳
