Craig Bullock famously known as hiphopking was a true visionary, a pioneer, and a respected adjudicator in the dance community. He held licenses to judge prestigious international events such as the Street Dance World Championships, World Cups, and Grand Prix events under the IDO. Furthermore, he dedicated many years as a member of the WDSF DanceSport Discipline Development in Breaking for Gold and the Hip Hop Commissions.
His exceptional talent in choreography was recognized in 2011 when his Hip Hop Formation Teams earned a gold medal at the IDO World Street Dance Championships in Austria. Craig’s deep passion for dance was only paralleled by his love for his family. Together with his wife and partner, he established C&M Dance Studio in 1997. In 2000, they co-founded DanceWeb and relocated to Gauteng, where it grew into a world-class dance academy that nurtured numerous champions and choreographers.
Craig’s impact extended significantly beyond the walls of his studio. He served as both the Federation’s Media and Marketing Director and as the CEO of the Street Dance Association. He was also the driving force behind the SDA Dance Sport School League initiatives, which brought structure to dance programs in schools across South Africa, Namibia, and Mauritius. His dedication to youth development was evident in his collaborations with the United Nations Children’s Education Fund and the Department of Basic Education. He engaged with Members of Parliament to discuss the SDA Dance Sport School League and the vision for the SDA Dance Sport Club League and Premier League, highlighting their potential to address critical social issues such as drug abuse, gender-based violence, and teen pregnancy. He was a strong advocate for creating SAFER SPACES for dancers by raising awareness about SAFEGUARDING to ensure nurturing environments for dancers.
Craig’s life has profoundly changed ours, and we are committed to carrying forward the vision of the Street Dance Association. His legacy will undoubtedly endure.
