day 14 of 30: healing my fear of being seen
storytime: i finally set a boundary with my mom

i used to shut down whenever she criticized me.
not because i didn’t care but because growing up, silence felt safer.

we’ve had a complicated relationship, especially around money.
today, she made a comment that would’ve triggered the old me.
something like “if you have that much money, just give it to me so i don’t have to work.”

and for the first time, i didn’t stay quiet.
i calmly explained my side.
i said: “i did what i had to do. and i don’t want to hear about this again.”

and… she didn’t explode.
she didn’t guilt me. she was neutral.

it may not sound like a big deal
but for someone who’s spent their whole life walking on eggshells,
that moment felt like freedom.

this is what healing looks like sometimes:
not yelling. not fighting.
just expressing your needs and feelings honestly. and choosing a new response.

voicing your thoughts in a rational, calm manners is the right way stop enabling such narcissistic behaviors and break the cycles of generational toxic behaviors. You did good. Keep it up. She may never change but you can.

Wow that's huge and I'm so proud of the strength that took and maturity. I never felt "safe" with my words with my mum..she's dead and I still feel shut down inside thinking of it. So good on you for this. I now have a partner that is my mum so maybe I'll have some luck in practicing on him😂😂
