One of my favorite laws of the universe is the law of cause and effect.
We spend so much time searching for a big purpose, a big sign, a big moment that changes everything…but most of life shifts because of the tiniest changes inside you.
When you change the cause, your mindset, your patterns, your reactions, effect naturally occurs.
When you stop reacting from guilt, your boundaries change.
When you stop living in survival mode, your relationships flow.
When you stop abandoning yourself, you stop choosing people who abandon you.
They shift because of the tiniest changes inside you that ripple outward.
That’s the law of cause and effect.
Cause = who you’re being internally.
Effect = what shows up in your external world.
And sometimes the most life changing moment
is you choosing yourself in a situation
where you used to abandon yourself. Sometimes, the big purpose in life is just choosing to be kind, honest, give unconditionally, and move with integrity.

Day 16 of 30: Healing my fear of being seen
This story isn’t to villainize my mom. She was battling with heart and stomach issues in Vietnam. So neither of us had it easy. But growing up in survival mode shaped how I handle fear, control, and freedom.
When she moved back in with me, I panicked. I didn’t want to lose my independence or feel criticized again. So I bought a Tesla. Yup while still juggling a personal loan, rent, and another car. Not the most financially responsible move, I know. But at the time, it felt like an escape.
Sometimes we don’t realize how our unhealed wounds make us spend, react, and cope.
This story is just one of the ways I’m learning to forgive myself and rewrite the patterns I inherited.

day 14 of 30: healing my fear of being seen
storytime: i finally set a boundary with my mom

i used to shut down whenever she criticized me.
not because i didn’t care but because growing up, silence felt safer.

we’ve had a complicated relationship, especially around money.
today, she made a comment that would’ve triggered the old me.
something like “if you have that much money, just give it to me so i don’t have to work.”

and for the first time, i didn’t stay quiet.
i calmly explained my side.
i said: “i did what i had to do. and i don’t want to hear about this again.”

and… she didn’t explode.
she didn’t guilt me. she was neutral.

it may not sound like a big deal
but for someone who’s spent their whole life walking on eggshells,
that moment felt like freedom.

this is what healing looks like sometimes:
not yelling. not fighting.
just expressing your needs and feelings honestly. and choosing a new response. by @sipwithhau

Intense anxiety just being next to my mom.
Overwhelming emotion when I thought I forgot something or messed up. Guilt when I wasn’t home enough. Even a sigh from her would put me on edge.
I can’t believe how much of that is gone in less than 2 years. Not from yelling, nagging, controlling, or trying to fix her.
But from staying calm, regulating myself, letting go of expectations, and setting boundaries.
When you change, people often meet you where you are.
But this isn’t something to expect or demand. It’s just important to know what’s actually in your control, and what isn’t.
You can’t control how someone reacts. But you can control how you show up, how you regulate yourself, what you allow. by @sipwithhau

Freedom without structure is chaos. Structure without freedom is suffocation
There were many moments I thought about just giving it all up. Walking away. Starting over. But when I step outside of my emotions and actually observe the situation, I can see that wanting to burn it all down was coming from pressure not clarity. It would’ve been a relief. Not what I truly want. So instead of running. Or making a permanent decision from a temporary emotional state. I'm choosing to sit my ass down, breathe, and stabilize. That means I’m putting Sip House into a low-pressure phase. No expansion. No new drinks. No new vendors. No new ideas just for the sake of excitement. This year’s growth will be more internal, building a system strong enough to hold what already exists.

Capacity is. by @sipwithhau

Why we rebranded
Sip House started as something personal. A place I built for myself. Somewhere I could feel safe, stay quiet, and exist without being seen too much.

I always envisioned Sip House as hidden and niche, almost like a speakeasy. Not trendy. Not loud. A place you had to slow down to appreciate. That’s why the bar was designed for sitting and watching the baristas pour coffee , the way a lot of coffee shops feel in Asia. Coffee as a ritual, not a rush.

The first logo wasn’t meant to invite anyone in. It was inward. Private. Protective.

That version of Sip House worked for a while. But as the shop grew, so did the people inside it. Our baristas, our guests, the community, they all became part of the experience. I started realizing that a business, like a relationship, is a co-creation. And holding everything too tightly, my preferences, my ideas, my need for control, was keeping things from evolving.

The new logo reflects that shift.

She faces forward now.
There’s warmth.
There’s color.
There’s openness.

Sip House is still quiet. Still intentional. But it’s no longer hidden out of fear. The rebrand isn’t louder or trendier, it’s learning the difference between privacy and presence.

What started as a private ritual has become a shared one.

Thank you for being part of every chapter. 🤍 by @sipwithhau

This idea didn’t originate from me. Trends don’t usually excite me. But my friend was running a tiramisu pop-up at the time, and it just felt like the right moment.

Confessions of a cafe owner.
These are the voices that run through my head everyday.
	•	“What if I can’t meet expectations?”
	•	“What if they find something wrong with me?”
	•	“If I mess up publicly, everyone will know.”
	•	“I’d rather stay invisible than fail in front of people.”
 •	“If my content goes viral, we might make a mistake we can’t hide.”
	•	“What if I can’t keep up?”
	•	“What if growth just means more pressure?”
 •	“I need to be more perfect before I grow.”
	•	“I need to be more organized before I show up.”
	•	“I have to fix everything before I expand.”
	•	“What if I’m not qualified yet?”
	•	“Let me just stay here until I’m fully ready.” by @sipwithhau

For most of my life, I suppressed every emotion before it could even surface. Every setback had to be brushed off.
Every stress had to be minimized.
Emotions were “inconvenient,” and vulnerability felt risky.
But that wasn’t strength and I wasn’t fine.
I was scared to feel anything because feeling meant I’d have to admit I needed support. And needing support used to feel unsafe for me.
This year reminded me that pretending you’re okay doesn’t make the pain go away.
Letting yourself feel does. I’m proud of how quickly I return to myself after the waves pass. I’m tired of numbing.
I want to feel.
I want to heal.
And I want to be real about the parts of this journey that aren’t pretty. We’ve gone through so many uncertain times and we all have proofs that we can quickly bounce back. So this month I’d like to remind us all to celebrate our accomplishments no matter big or small. by @sipwithhau

I’m not even passionate about making coffee.
I was passionate about feeling safe. And cafés were the only places I felt that back in 2018-2019.
Heartbroken, jobless, lost, I flew to Vietnam over and over and just sat in coffee shops with friends who were also going through breakups that felt like death.
It was comforting.
It was an escape.
It was my reset button.
And somehow… that escape became my purpose.
