I had an old aluminum JBL Polespear snap at the tip on a big Cobia. The band was fully stretched and it came flying back at me. Fortunately it was a grazing shot but my right hand on hammered. “just let go!”

All he could think about is losing the fish or pole spear. His buddy knew the drill. Saw the dangers of this situation. I belive that's why he poked the guys hand

Has anyone else here taken a top water shot and had a spear come back and hit them in the face? I was shooting a Houndfish a few months back and had the spear come back and split open my lip and nearly take my eye out. Curious how common that is in the community

It’s a great reason to have your polespear on a floatline or a floatline.* fixed it. Belt reels are a great way to die especially for none professionals.
