🎉happy 8th anniversary, Beacon NY🎉
8 years ago this weekend in this exact seat, on my first afternoon in town, I was lonely and aimless and decided I would, for a while, try to instagram all the food i ate in town as a way to contribute to my new community and connect with people (my first photo I shared was a plate of raw radishes and I’m not sure who I thought was gonna want to be friends with me from that). Pretty sure I was a little misguided in terms of how to really impact the community—but despite its limits my lil instagram undertaking (@eatingbeacon ) did lead to lots of connections and friendships for me and also gave me a platform for helping people have better days and more enjoyable lives, which is all I really wanna do at the end of the day.

Thanks to all my friends in life and at @eatingbeacon and on instagram + who have kept making Beacon feel like home to me. When I lost my home(s) to mold and found most (all) of the Beacon landlords to be extremely difficult and unkind to deal with , neighbors and friends and generous strangers in town and online offered everything from hands for manual labor to jokes for moral support and beyond — and it’s not the homes or spaces but the beaconites who remind me why I was right to set down roots here in the first place.

I don’t know that I’ll be here forever, but for now, I’m so happy to be eating in Beacon. With the world burning we didn’t know how to appropriately celebrate the anniversary milestone yesterday when I remembered it, so we just decided to do an impromptu celebratory anniversary photoshoot in the chair where eating beacon was born. 8 years later. Same girl, same goals, different hair color.

Here’s to another anniversary shoot in 8 years to mark more passing of time - may all our hairs be blonder (to have more fun) and our radishes be even more photogenic (and maybe just a side dish and not the main thing).
