Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi’s upcoming Ramayana has sparked a fresh debate after the release of ‘Mangal Rang’, with some listeners questioning what they describe as its “qawwali-like” sound. The song depicts Lord Ram and Maa Sita’s wedding celebrations. Composed by AR Rahman, sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, and written by Kumar Vishwas, the track captures the couple’s marriage and their arrival in Ayodhya. However, its musical treatment has drawn criticism from a section of social media users. Some compared the composition to Rahman’s ‘Kun Faya Kun’ from Rockstar, questioning whether that sound suited the epic’s setting. Others drew parallels with his Tamil song ‘Enna Solla Pogirai’. These are listeners’ comparisons, rather than an established classification of the track as qawwali. The response has also included praise. Several viewers appreciated the grand visuals and Ranbir–Sai Pallavi’s chemistry, making the song a point of divided opinion ahead of the film’s release.
