For this custom new-construction home, the homeowners desired a “modern farmhouse” style exterior with an attached garage - a potential design challenge in this particular location. While honoring their stylistic goals and preferences, the house also needed to fit the scale and character of the surrounding neighborhood - a mix of older homes in a variety of traditional styles as well as a few new builds. The roof shape, building massing and the scale of the front porch intentionally mirror many of these local turn of the century homes to fit nicely among the neighboring houses. Warm white siding paired with grey windows and roofing are a nod to the black and white farmhouse aesthetic, but softens the look for a more traditional and timeless appeal. A brick base adds texture and warmth while grounding the home and framing both the front stoop and rear patio.
