Today, SWISCo is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for six green spaces in Torbay!
The sites are amongst 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.
The news that Babbacombe Downs, Clennon Lakes, Princess and Royal Terrace Gardens, Stoodley Knowle Meadow, Tessier Gardens, and St Marys Park have all met the standards required for the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and volunteers that care for the green spaces so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy them.
Princess Gardens, Royal Terrace Gardens and Tessier Gardens also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management and promotion of their historic features.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world. Any green space that is freely accessible to the public is eligible to enter for a Green Flag Award. Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag Award status.
Fantastic news for Team SWISCo!
