🌸 As we say goodbye to another summer of colour, here's a look back at the beautiful flower displays that brightened Torbay's parks and open spaces. Despite a challenging season, they brought so much enjoyment to residents and visitors alike.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to admire them. Roll on the 2027 flowering season! 🌼☀️

Keeping Torbay's beaches looking their best! ☀️

Our beach raking team has been hard at work at Goodrington Sands, clearing seaweed and debris to help keep the beach clean, safe and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

A great example of the work that goes on behind the scenes to support our beautiful English Riviera.

🎃 Don’t let your pumpkins become spooky waste this Halloween - RECYCLE them! ♻️

Our SWISCo recycling team will happily collect whole pumpkins placed on top of or next to your food waste bin. Want to go the extra mile? Chop them up and pop them inside the bin. 🗑️

There are also a number of pumpkin recycling points across the Bay, including one at Oldway Mansion and White Rock Primary School.

🦔 And remember - leaving pumpkins to rot in your garden can harm wildlife, especially hedgehogs.

We hope you have a spook-tacular evening!👻

✨ After many years out of action, the colourful lights at Royal Terrace Gardens are shining once again!

As part of #OperationBrighterBay, the lights at Rock Walk have been repaired and replaced - bringing vibrant colour back to Torquay seafront.

This fantastic transformation was a joint effort between SWISCo and @fts.uk.

Make sure to take a stroll and enjoy the view - it’s looking brighter than ever! 💡✨

Today, SWISCo is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for six green spaces in Torbay!

The sites are amongst 2,250 in the UK to achieve the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

The news that Babbacombe Downs, Clennon Lakes, Princess and Royal Terrace Gardens, Stoodley Knowle Meadow, Tessier Gardens, and St Marys Park have all met the standards required for the accreditation is testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and volunteers that care for the green spaces so that visitors and residents alike can enjoy them.

Princess Gardens, Royal Terrace Gardens and Tessier Gardens also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management and promotion of their historic features.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world. Any green space that is freely accessible to the public is eligible to enter for a Green Flag Award. Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each year to renew their Green Flag Award status.

Fantastic news for Team SWISCo!

Maria has been a friendly and familiar face to many, serving both Queensway and Preston Primary. Her presence will be greatly missed by the school and the wider community. Thank you for everything, Maria. We wish you the best of luck with whatever comes next! 💛

❗We are now looking to recruit someone to take on this important and rewarding role. Do you know someone who might be interested? Perhaps a neighbour, friend, or family member who lives locally and would enjoy a part-time role that makes a real difference?

🌿 Exciting News for Nature Lovers! 🌿

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving access to nature, we're thrilled to announce the next phase of works. This project will widen the path from the Dartmouth Road signals to Clennon Lakes. 🚶‍♂️🌳

The new route will upgrade the existing hard surface, making access easier. It will continue to the far end of Clennon Lakes, connecting with the path network created by the Friends of Clennon Lakes. From there, you can enjoy a circular walk around the lakes, offering a fantastic opportunity to see the incredible work done by the friends group. ✨

The work will begin on Monday 14th July and is expected to take around 11 weeks - we'll keep disruption to a minimum during this time.

📷 - All these beautiful pictures are courtesy of the @friendsofclennon Facebook page.

We’re thrilled to introduce our new Bigbelly bins! These smart bins are designed to keep our community cleaner and greener 🌳

With advanced technology, they compact waste and send alerts when they’re full, ensuring efficient waste management. Say goodbye to overflowing bins and hello to a cleaner Bay!🌴💚

Oh, and they’re also very polite - making sure to thank every individual that stops to use them.

Make sure to keep an eye out for them around town and join Team SWISCo in making a positive difference.

🌳 You may remember, back in 2022, we gave away over 300 tree saplings to residents visiting the recycling centre.

We partnered with @devonwildlifetrust for the ‘Saving Devon’s Treescapes’ campaign, distributing Oak, Rowan, and Crab Apple trees.

We’d love to see where these trees are now, and how they are doing. If you picked up a sapling, send us a picture and let us know how it’s growing! 🌱📸
