𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗽𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗽𝗹ó𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗮 𝗭𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗸𝗶. Come see it in person and spend time with the work!
In Speplól’s practice, the meditative process of loom-beading becomes a form of philosophical and cultural exploration, self-reflection, and a way of passing on teachings to future generations.
🌌 For 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙥𝙨, Speplól (@tanyazilinski) drew inspiration from 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐨𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲—a framework that reveals the hidden order within seemingly chaotic systems, much like the world around us. The series began with fractals and geometric patterns found in nature, but gradually shifted toward fully 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, their colours and forms guided by spirit. In the context of chaos theory, these spontaneous compositions become 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱—maps of memory, instinct, and lived experience.
🎤 Join us for an artist talk with Speplól Tanya Zilinski facilitated by curator Maryam Babaei on Saturday, July 26 at 1 PM. Attend in person or via Zoom — all are welcome!
🗓️ Spirit Maps is on view at MEDIAS RES Gallery until August 3 — don’t miss it!
