How many years have we spent seeing our bodies through someone else’s eyes? Holding our stomachs in. Covering the parts that changed. Asking ourselves whether we’re still allowed to feel beautiful as we grow older. We are. And there’s so much freedom in no longer waiting for permission. Our bodies carry us through love, pleasure, grief, illness and everyday life. Some have carried children. Every one deserves tenderness. Mine keeps changing, and I’m learning to change with it. To stop turning every softer part or unfamiliar curve into another reason to be hard on myself. To enjoy being a woman without feeling I have to look a certain way. That’s why I love how @understatement_underwear celebrates female bodies of all ages, shapes and colours. Seeing that variety matters. We deserve to see ourselves reflected, just as we are. We don’t need underwires, uncomfortable cuts or awkward fits. We need softness. Underwear that embraces our bodies, gives us room to breathe and feels like a gentle hug through the day. We deserve to feel at home in our bodies now. There is no age, shape or weight we have to reach to earn that. ❤️ AD created for Understatement Underwear #bodylove #inclusivity #agepositive #womencommunity
When I heard the recent SNL monologue, I had a LOT of thoughts. And a whole lot of rage. 😇 I go to the gym every day. I wear a sports bra and shorts. I am not a wh0re. I’m a mother of three beautiful children and a faithful wife to a man I love. I’m also a woman who deserves to exist in a gym without having her character reduced to what she’s wearing. I go to the gym for ME. It’s the one thing I do for myself every single day. I move my body, lift heavy things, work through emotions, remind myself that I’m strong, and show my kids what it looks like to take care of yourself even when life is hard. I fill my own cup so I have more to pour into the people I love. And I know SO many women who do the same. For so many of us, the gym is our escape. It’s our therapy and our hour to just be. Seeing women being called derogatory, misogynistic names for wearing clothes designed to sweat in, and watching men laugh along, is mind boggling and infuriating. And before you get too lazy to do critical thinking and call me “too sensitive,” ask yourself why we’ve become so desensitized to disrespecting women that this is considered “comedy”. Women deserve to exist without being demeaned for what they wear or the choices they make for themselves. It’s not funny. It’s lazy comedy and loser behavior. And you know what… I know damn well Shane isn’t spending much time in the gym, because his arms might look a liiiittle more like mine and all my badass gym girl friends if he were 🤷🏻‍♀️😘
