VICE WORLD CHAMPIONS U24
We did it… again!
After our silver medal two years ago, we came into this tournament aiming for gold. We knew the road would be tough, but we also knew that even another medal would be an incredible achievement.
We started strong in pool play, finding our rhythm with wins over Singapore (15-7), Austria (13-11), and Australia (15-9).
In the upper pool: 15-2 vs GB with a ruthless D-line. Then a tight battle vs Japan (14-12), lightning delay at halftime, momentum shift, but we stayed in control. Then a highlight-filled 15-11 win over Canada.
Quarterfinals: Colombia. Much improved from 2023. They led for most of the game, but our mental toughness brought us back. 15-13.
Semifinals: Italy. Again. A rematch of 2023. They led 13-14, but we clawed back. Double game point. Win. Final bound.
And then, the final. Against the powerhouse USA - undefeated in U24 open history. We gave it all, but they held strong. We fell short of gold, but proudly stood again on the podium. Silver, again…
This squad was built around a core from two years ago, stronger and sharper than ever. With a few talented young players added, we created a team that was feared for its defense, loved for its chemistry, and unmatched in mental toughness.
Two European teams made it to the semis this year, Belgium and Italy, proving that Europe is catching up fast.
Massive respect and thanks to our coaches Ine Lanckriet and Valerio Iani, whose leadership keeps pushing us to new heights. And a special shoutout to Daan De Marrée, our star player from 2023, who returned this year as a coach and made a huge impact.
A huge thanks to the staff: Olivia (team manager/mommy), Larre (team manager), Emma Stael (physio), Aeris Raymaekers (pictures), Emma Desmet (videos) and Guy Willems (communication).
Thanks to the organisation!
Last but not least, thanks to all of you. The fans watching at home! We really felt your support all the way in Spain.
We came for gold. We leave with silver. But above all, we leave with a team that keeps writing history.
B-E-L GIUMMMM!!! tchoo tchoo 🚂🇧🇪
