POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
First roster call is live.

Honored to take the reins as Head Coach for the Italian Mixed National Team 🇮🇹 for the next two cycles.

After nearly a year of tryouts, phase two of Road to Germany and the @theworldgames begins now.

To the athletes named to this initial Mixed squad: congratulations!

Wearing la maglia azzurra isn’t a gift, it’s a privilege we have to earn every single training session from here on out. 👕

To all athletes involved: you are making history. Whether you step onto the field at Euros 2027, Worlds 2028, TWG 2029, or push the pace at selection camps, you are part of this build. The team that will represent Italy in #Karlsruhe will carry the pulse of our entire community, fighting for every single disc.

It’s only through the beat of every single wing 🪽 today that Italy 🇮🇹 will take flight 🚀 tomorrow.

Huge credit to @salvocomis17 @flyingdiscitalia and @figestfederazione for backing us with the plataform, the structure, resources and the staff to do this right.

Time to get to work.

GETTING OPEN IS TIMING, NOT SPEED 🎯

1. The Goal

• Traditional:
Run faster and plant harder.

• Reality:
Perceiving spatial opportunities (affordances). Elite cutters get open because they break the exact millisecond a defender turns their hips, loses balance, or overcommits.

2. The Footwork

• Traditional:
Agility ladders for “quick feet.”

• Reality:
Perceptual-motor coupling (linking footwork directly to defender movement). Stepping through plastic rungs doesn’t teach your body to self-organize (adapt footing on the fly) when a defender shifts their center of mass.

3. The Movement Solution

• Traditional:
Memorizing a “perfect” cut.

• Reality:
Flexible movement options. High-level players unlock their degrees of freedom (allowing joints and muscles to adapt freely) and leverage degeneracy (using completely different footwork to reach the exact same open space) based on defender positioning and field conditions.

4. The Training

• Traditional:
Cone shuttle runs, pre-determined cutting patterns, and rehearsed routes without real-time defensive opposition.

• Ecological Dynamics:
Live 1v1 reaction grids and representative situational games built on the Constraints-Led Approach (#CLA)

Look how two deceptively quick, highly attuned players get open at will! 🧠⚡

Kristýna Tlustá and Loic Billaut ’s cuts aren’t raw physical speed, their movement dynamically self-organizes in response to defender positioning to open up throwing lanes.

COACHING AT WUCC:
THE STORY BEHIND FRAMNES 🇳🇴

The final placements rarely capture the scale of the mountain a team had to climb to get there.

Stepping in to help Framnes—the mixed squad from Norway—compete at WUCC 2026 without prior training was one of the most complex experiences of my coaching career, and because of that, very rewarding.

Before we set foot in Ireland, the odds were stacked impossibly high against this group: 👇

• Average Age: 21–22 years old (with several players under 18 and our youngest just 16).

• Zero 7v7 Experience: In Norway, whenever they play outdoors, they use a 5v5 format.

• Calibrated Purely for Indoor Ultimate: They had never played in real wind or soaking rain—a big handicap when facing the Irish weather in Limerick.

• First International Tournament: The team had never participated in an event outside of Norway.

Most of the week was a painful trial by fire. Facing veteran, world-class teams while adjusting to a completely foreign format in brutal weather tested them to the absolute limit.

Then came the shift.

Instead of breaking, this young group gelled. They took the hard lessons from those early losses, processed the adjustments, and put them into practice on the field. The results might seem small on paper, but they were massive for us:

A gritty, well-earned 15–11 victory and two heart-wrenching, wire-to-wire battles (13–15 and 12–14).

Trust Built Under Pressure

My hat goes off to this entire squad. A special shoutout goes to our women’s line—who came in as the least experienced players on the roster, yet refused to lose hope. They trusted the input and tactical adjustments, bought into the system, and fought relentlessly until the final points.

I can’t wait to see what Norwegian ultimate can do in the years to come! ❤️🇳🇴

WUCC HAS A SYSTEMIC INTEGRITY PROBLEM 🏆⚠️

The dust has settled on WUCC 2026 but looking strictly at final standings ignores the structural flaws that dictated them.

World Ultimate Championships should measure true team excellence but the current setup actively distorts competition.

Three major issues undermined this year’s results: 👇

1. Outdated Initial Seeding
Using 4-year-old historical national data instead of current form creates unbalanced pools from Day 1. When elite teams get assigned 20+ or 30+ seeds, it causes brutal early-round collisions and can give weaker teams soft paths to the bracket.

2. No Power Pools
Without power pools to filter teams after the group stage, early-round upsets carry an irreversible penalty. One bad game in bad weather can banish a top team to the bottom half of the bracket with no way to recover. Power pools exist to absorb variance and ensure the true top teams reach the quarterfinals.

3. “Pick-Up” Superteams
The line between a true club and an international exhibition squad has blurred. Weak roster rules allow teams to bring in short-term international “friends” and elite ringers for a single week, undermining years of organic program-building by genuine club rosters.

🌍 The Bottom Line
Not an easy fix but WFDF should look into solutions to protect the tournament’s competitive integrity.

💬 Should WFDF mandate strict club roster continuity and use live regional rankings for future WUCC seeding?

How would you fix this? Share your thoughts below!👇

WUCC is special. It’s a multi-national showdown wrapped in a week-long global event.

Reconnect with old friends, make new rivals and learn from every corner of the world.

You process your own emotions, digest the team’s highs and lows, navigate semifinals madness and soak the finals adrenaline. You watch your former players step up and claim medals: gold and silver! 🏆

The post-tournament blues hit after all of this. How could they not? But you’re not alone—3,000+ athletes, staff, media, volunteers and fans are processing it right along with you.

Hold onto these memories. See you in 4 years. 🥏

Why did 88% of athletes blame pressure, errors and frustration—while only 13% blamed focus?

Because distraction is quiet. When you make a bad turnover or freeze under mark pressure, you feel the emotional aftermath instantly—the spike of anger or anxiety. So players naturally assume frustration or pressure is the issue.

In reality, it’s a bidirectional feedback loop:

1) Attentional Drift: Your focus slips from the immediate task to the outcome, which triggers the initial spike of anxiety or frustration.

2) The Feedback Loop: That anxiety then attacks your brain’s working memory capacity, destroying your remaining attentional control and causing a cascade of more errors.

What feels like an “emotional problem” actually starts—and compounds—as a focus breakdown.

That breakdown happens on two levels:

• Individual Attentional Drift: Losing sight of immediate execution in the “here and now.”

• Lack of a Shared Mental Framework: Without an agreed-upon team protocol for handling adversity, players process pressure in isolation—causing team alignment to shatter and individual anxiety to multiply.

To perform at your peak during World Ultimate Club Championships, individual and collective focus must stay locked in the present point.

At any given second, your attention is in one of two places:

• The wrong place: The score, the last turnover, the wind, the crowd or what happens if you lose.

• The right place: What you are doing right now, what your team is doing right now, and executing within your shared system.

Elite mental toughness isn’t about never losing concentration—it’s about catching yourself the second your focus leaves what matters and using your team’s framework—and your favorite mental tool—to pull yourself right back into the game before that feedback loop takes over.

Catch the drift, reset to the present task and break the spiral. 🌀

📌 Save this post to review with your team before the first game at #WUCC.

💬 Drop a comment below: What is your favorite mental tool to pull your focus back when things get tense?

“I’ve been playing for 11 years and I’d never seen such a revolution, not in my club nor in the national team, both at the game and organizational level.”
— F. Ricci Britti, Captain at WUCC 2022, CP Imola

A full season as Head Coach vs. a focused campaign as Performance Consultant; two different roles, but a familiar context. 🧠

In 2022, CP Imola was preparing for their first-ever World Championships in Cincinnati. I had a full year to test concepts, challenge habits, and build systems alongside a group with an exceptional willingness to progress.

Now with @framnes_ultimate for Limerick 2026, they are stepping onto the World Championship stage for the first time as well. Framnes already has a thriving identity and genuine momentum, so I’m joining this cycle as a sparring partner rather than running the day-to-day program.

So where’s the thread that connects them?

Beyond both being first-time World Championship experiences, it’s the shared mindset: a willingness to learn, refine the details, and think outside the box.

Whether in a 12-month head coaching role or a targeted consulting engagement, the core approach doesn’t change:

1️⃣ Questioning default assumptions rather than relying on “how things have always been done.”

2️⃣ Fostering High Challenge & High Support—stretching the limits while backing the players completely.

In a consulting role, you don’t rewrite a team’s identity. You provide an objective mirror—helping leadership sharpen tactics, stress-test decisions, and channel that hunger to progress when the pressure of the world stage ramps up.

Different format, same commitment to quiet execution and growth.

We set sail soon, Framnes 🇳🇴🔥 WUCC is right around the corner.
What a challenge!

9 days until WUCC kicks off in Ireland. 🥏✈️

Looking at our schedule for Pool C (Mixed) is equal parts exciting and stark.

This is a real “Pool of Death”:
🇦🇺 Manly Mosh (#3)
🇨🇴 Macondo (#15)
🇨🇦 Union (#17)
🇩🇪 Zamperl (#33)
🇸🇰 Outsiterz (#45)

For Framnes 🇳🇴, stepping onto the world stage for the very first time—and coming from Norway where ultimate is mostly played indoors—this is a massive leap. Facing established outdoor powerhouses like Australia, Colombia, and Canada, alongside the current #2 seed in Europe (Zamperl), is as big a test as it gets.

What a challenge!

My job as a performance consultant isn’t to run plays from the sideline. It’s give the leadership team the structural tools they need: helping with the game plan, building a rotation system that handles the physical load of a 7-day tournament, adapting mentally fast to international competition, and maintaining tactical composure when games get tight.

No easy points on the schedule. Exactly how it should be.

Let’s go, @framnesultimate 🔥!

🏆 THE OAKLAND BLUEPRINT 🏆

Is there a more dominant youth pipeline in ultimate right now?

⚡ U17 Boys —Sparks
 2022: Finalist 🥈
 2023: Finalist 🥈
 2024: Finalist 🥈
 2025: Champions 🏆
 2026: Finalist 🥈

🔥 U20 Boys —smOAK
 2022: Finalist 🥈
2023: 5th Place (missed semi by 1 pt)
 2024: Finalist 🥈
 2025: Champions 🏆
 2026: Champions 🏆 (Back-to-Back!)

✨ U20 Girls —OAK Embers
 2025: 7th Place
 2026: 5th Place 📈

💥 MORE THAN JUST TALENT
Oakland’s historic run isn’t an accident—it’s a framework. This sustained success is built on a young coaching staff, strong parent support, an empowering culture, and intentional youth development with a dedicated focus on the mental game.

🧠 THE METHODOLOGY
Since its inception, we discarded rigid playbooks for Ecological Dynamics and the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA).
Instead of static plays, Oakland athletes train to read space, adapt to defenders, and solve real-time problems under game constraints. The result? Intelligent, adaptable decision-makers who transition seamlessly from Sparks to smOAK.

🐐 CAN ANY OTHER ORG MATCH IT?
Historically, YCC juggernauts like Seattle (DiscNW), Boston (BUDA), and North Carolina (Triangle Ultimate) have dominated the landscape with multi-division sweeps across Boys, Girls, and Mixed over the years.

However, Oakland’s targeted U15-to-U20 pipeline has created a rare, unbroken chain of dominance: developing players through Sparks and seamlessly advancing them into smOAK to reach 9 national finals since 2022 with Embers climbing rapidly on the girls’ side.

Is this pipeline built to dominate for the next decade, or how long can Oakland sustain this run? Drop your takes below! 👇
