Revolution Proposal - warning LOOONG comment- worth reading til the end: I worked with Live 8 as a volunteer for two years. I went to Africa and worked in an orphanage there, and I was at the show in Philadelphia. The volunteer gig was: The musicians who were part of the coalition allowed our volunteers be at their shows for free. Before the concerts and after the concerts, our volunteer crew, would speak to people and sign them up to be part of the campaign. I attended many U2 and Dave Matthews Band concerts in NYC and surrounding areas. The volunteers across the nation signed up two million people. Every time that a piece of legislation came up in regard to this matter, an email would go out to our members. In the email was the phone number to call and the script on how to speak to their politicians. Sometimes, there was an automated email that you needed to send to your politicians. EVERYTHING that we were a part of passed (or if we were against some legislation, it was shot down). We also had coalitions of people who would go to Washington D.C. and speak to our congress people in person. I was a part of this too. Bush Jr. was president at the time, but we still got this legislation passed. Today, we need the same kind of coalition of artists, people, future politicians, and educators. We need this level of organization. My proposal is that we start this type of coalition again, but gathering voters and future voters. We need our team watching the local legislation as well as national. Our team will identify politicians (the most progressive candidates and the least emboldenedto corporations) and send out information on them to support them. When identifying future politicians, they will be vetted. Our volunteers can scour colleges to find future candidates. We can possibly have booths at concerts to talk to people about being future politicians. We have to cripple this two-party system and start new with young people who care about the planet and people. Revolution anyone? Email me at [email protected] Let's build the revolution
