Hearing @davidebybc and the @bcndp say that women’s health care is health care is so important. I was asked to give my thoughts on how to improve midlife care for women in BC and shared my thoughts, which included vaginal estrogen available from a pharmacist, making a neurokinin receptor antagonist part of the pharmacare coverage (because we should be providing medication for women who cannot take hormones as well), and doing the work though appropriate surveys to understand the gaps in care so we can be guided by evidence, which is what women deserve.

I also had a chance to meet many amazing MLAs and candidates and what an amazing group of women!!!

I hope to continue to support the NDP in making care better for women in BC.

Also, the combination of amazing research from UBC and policies from the NDP has brought women many amazing advances in care! Let’s continue down that path.

Some autistic kids don’t understand when a request is genuinely impossible:

▪️Asking for a broken object to work exactly the way it did before
▪️Asking for a food or product that is completely sold out
▪️Asking to go somewhere that is closed
▪️Asking to bring back an item that was lost and cannot be found
▪️Asking for the weather to change
▪️Asking to make a character in a book or video do something different
▪️Asking to make a pet behave in a very specific way on command
▪️Asking to make someone stop crying, coughing, or making another involuntary sound

Repeated attempts to help them achieve the impossible can keep hope alive and ultimately make the disappointment BIGGER.

So when the request is impossible, show them you understand what they want,
then be clear that it cannot happen.

Your job is not to prevent disappointment, it’s to give clear information and help them through it.

In therapy, kids can practice accepting an alternative after a small, less-important request cannot be met.

Over time, kids can build more flexibility, tolerate disappointment, and learn what to do when the answer truly cannot change 💙
