A giant rose at night from my show with April Street at James Fuentes, on view til September 13th.
This is one of those special English roses that smells like lemons. The variety is called Gertrude Jekyll, named after the famous arts and crafts era garden designer and horticulturalist, who started out as a painter actually. (for a good time read the crazy story of her “garden of Eden” on giudecca island in Venice)
This one grew in the garden of my old house in (the other)Venice, but it smelled so good I took a cutting when I moved and gave it hormones and misted it carefully until it grew new roots so I could plant it again in the new dirt.
