The Soviet Union (USSR) 🇷🇺 existed from 1922 to 1991, comprising 15 union republics and emerging as one of the world’s two major superpowers during the Cold War. Headquartered in Moscow, it operated under a centrally planned economy, developed a powerful industrial and military infrastructure, and played a crucial role in the defeat of Nazi Germany during World War II. At its height, the USSR covered approximately 22.4 million square kilometers, making it the largest country in the world by land area. However, decades of economic stagnation, political reforms introduced by Mikhail Gorbachev, and rising nationalist movements across its republics weakened the Soviet system. On 26 December 1991, the Soviet Union officially dissolved, resulting in the emergence of 15 independent countries and marking the end of the Soviet superpower era. ‼️Sources: Encyclopaedia Britannica, Library of Congress, and United Nations historical records. #sarcasm #history #soviet #russia #ussr
