The rumors are true! After a short hiatus of 9.5 years (see last picture), you can find me behind the bar @fandfrestaurant one night a week. Why? Because I enjoy it! (And a little side hustle never hurt anyone 🤪)

I'm still spending most of my time providing health and longevity coaching and writing for @thelongrun.nyc, but I wanted more social connection. Remember, the big levers you can pull to promote your health and happiness are sleep, nutrition, movement, and social connection.

Getting back behind the bar gets me moving and interacting with my community. I wasn't ready to leave bartending back in 2016, but I had an opportunity that I couldn't turn down at the time. I'm so excited to be back!

Thank you to @eringruetzm for giving me a chance and, of course, the Franks!

Come say hi! If you haven't tried the food at F&F, you're missing out!

Thanks to @corijoswanson for capturing scenes from my first shift a few weeks ago, right before we went to Spain for two weeks 😂. by @thelongrun.nyc

The bad news is that you can't really rest on your laurels when it comes to fitness. If you stop moving regularly, you will lose strength and cardiovascular function. But there is no age at which you can't become fitter or stronger, even after a long period of reduced activity.

I love helping people introduce more movement and physical activity into their routines in a gradual, manageable, and sustainable way, even when they think they don't have time. If that sounds like you, send me a DM and let's connect.

Exercising and moving are showing up for work, not saving for retirement. Rest is important and essential, but to lead the life you likely want now (and for the long run!), staying active is incredibly important. But that doesn't mean you have to live at the gym. I encourage you to be the type of person who is always looking for ways to move, both big and small.

If you want help with that, slide into my DMs and let's chat about your goals.

Do your friends think you talk about VO2 max too much? Or perhaps you have no idea what VO2 max is (and don’t particularly care)? Knowing your number or understanding cardiac output and mitochondrial function isn’t important. But being able to perform the activities you love (and need) to do easily, both now and for the long run, is important.

Slide into my DMs if you want to improve your VO2 max or just feel better doing the things you love and need to do.

Progress doesn't always feel like progress when it's happening, whether in life, business, or fitness. But consistency works. It can just be hard to keep going sometimes. What do you do when you're feeling discouraged? For me, I like to get outside and talk to my wife and friends.

I wrote more about this in my most recent newsletter. Link in bio. taken in Brooklyn, New York by @thelongrun.nyc

How many times have you overestimated what you can accomplish in a day or a week? And how many times have you underestimated what you can accomplish in a year? Making change, especially to your health, can be difficult and it can be easy to get discouraged. That's unfortunately part of the process a lot of times. I wrote more about this and why I was discouraged last week in my most recent Substack. Link in bio.

Let me know what you do when you get discouraged in the comments. taken in New York, New York by @thelongrun.nyc

Most of us don’t suddenly get out of shape. We gradually do less and then call it aging. The line between actual biological aging and years of accumulated inactivity is blurrier than most people realize, and conflating the two leads to very different decisions. It's worth thinking about where you are on that spectrum.

Check out this week's Substack to learn more. And if you want the full story and to learn one way to combat "progressive underloading" you can become a paid subscriber for the price of your favorite coffee drink.

Exercise is unnatural?! It is, but movement is essential. I discuss this seeming contradiction and why our bodies actually work better when we move regularly in my latest newsletter. We are products of evolution and understanding that can help us improve our health in an environment that evolution never could have prepared us for: our modern world. We’ve spent decades treating inactivity like a character flaw. It isn’t. It’s an evolutionary feature that made perfect sense for 99% of human history, but now creates real problems in the 1% we're living in. The question isn’t why we don’t want to exercise. It’s how we work around a brain that was never built for a gym membership. This week’s Substack goes deeper on that. Link in bio.
