a year agoThe last few times I’ve been here, it’s really struck me how fortunate I’ve been to photograph in this space for over 10 years. But my connection to St. Mary’s began long before that. I first stepped inside at age 7 as a guest for PSR, without any sense of how often I would return here throughout my life. I would not be a photographer if it weren’t for this church and the Mexican community of Painesville that welcomed me back year after year. They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, when I was too scared to lift my voice, draw attention, or direct others. That truth has never left my heart. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of standing here with my camera, witnessing tres años, quinces, weddings, baptisms, and confirmations. Often it has been the same families, across generations, trusting me to hold their stories as their children grow and their roots deepen. The Mexican community here has blessed me in countless ways since childhood, and much of my identity was shaped as a result. But when I think about how photography has shaped my career, opened opportunities, and helped me grow in confidence and identity, I cannot forget the impact of the comunidad that brought me into their sacred space. Photography has changed my life in many ways, but it was here, in this place, that the path began. 💛 Gracias
