After my last post, I got a few some Q’s about my career after my time at UW. I have never shared my story on this platform, the video doesn’t show the whole story, so here goes ⬇️
2007 - graduated from UW, moved home, got a 9-5 job at a marketing agency downtown Edmonton while training/playing before/after work
2008 - 1st Worlds - Harbin, China🥈(quit my job 😉)
2009 - 2nd Worlds 🥈 - this time as 4th line forward 😤
2010 - 1st Olympics - Vancouver 🥇
2011 - Worlds in Swiss🥈- Most Valuable D of the tournament
…then the speed bumps starting coming.
2012 - Worlds - Vermont 🥇- massive learning experience … spent the entire 3rd & OT on the bench
2013 - Worlds - Ottawa 🥈 - fought HARD to work in as the 5,6,7th D - didn’t play a ton, but learned my lesson in 2012 - every role matters
2014 - 2nd Olympics - broke my hand, played the final w/ it frozen - 🥇w/ this team was super special
2015 - stepped away to have Calder - fertility issues = missed way more time than planned
2016 - Cleared for contact 3 months post-partum, made Worlds team 🥈 as an assistant captain while breastfeeding, with 2 pulled groins, bursitis in my shoulder & tendinitis in both wrists, BATTLING post-partum depression
2017 - Made Worlds 🥈- not in a good place
2018 - 3rd Olympics 🥈- devastating loss to USA in SO - still struggling immensely
2019-2020 - Stepped away to have Berkley, tried to comeback, went to camp in the best shape of my career & mentally healthy, was cut from Team Canada for the 1st time.
2021 - FOUGHT back into the mix & named to the Olympic tryout roster. 3 weeks later - blew my ACL & everything in my knee except the PCL - 9-12 month rehab w/ 7.5 months until the Olympics
5.5 months later - played 3 games before they named the Olympic Team - was cut again… my knee wasn’t ready
2022 - Appeared on the Olympic broadcast, decided I wasn’t ready to retire, went to camp w/ Team Canada on a mission = made the team, Worlds 🥇w/ Scott, Calder & Berkley in Denmark w/ me ❤️
Success is not linear. Sometimes we have to fight for every inch. But in the end, the harder the climb, the greater the sacrifice = greater the satisfaction in the end.
