Weingarten Art Group

Art Lab began in 2024 as a bold new mentorship initiative created by @discoverygreen and @weingartenartgroup to support Houston-based artists in making the leap from studio practice to large-scale public art.
This fall, we’re proud to debut Chroma Collective by @karennavarroph—an immersive sculptural installation that reflects the heart of what makes Art Lab one of a kind. More than a mentorship or grant, the program offers a rare opportunity for artists to imagine, develop, and realize a public work at the scale Discovery Green is known for.
With support from Lead Artist Mentor @jenlewinstudio, collaborative workshops in New York, and hands-on design development with @metalabstudio_, the program gave both selected fellows—Karen Navarro and @gerardorosalesart—not just knowledge, but real-world experience. From concept to commission, Art Lab is a true investment in Houston’s artists and their futures.
We celebrate both fellows and their contributions to the inaugural year!
