sagipkapwa is a mutual aid fund that was started back in july within friends within my own personal network. it is open to all, with zero preconditions.
i decided to post a simple explainer because i’ve noticed in the past weeks how many people have been requesting while carrying the weight of guilt, shame, or the feeling of not being enough. it reminds me how far we still have to go in remembering that we are the ones meant to hold each other up in these difficult times.
this isn’t charity. it’s mutual aid.
charity often looks down,
while mutual aid looks across.
in charity, someone gives because
they “have more.”
in mutual aid, we share
because we all need each other at different times and acknowledge that tho uncertainty exists,
we face it arm in arm together.
in the past weeks, i’ve seen how hard it is for people to ask for help. the long explanations, the apologies, the promises to “repay the favor.”
but that’s not what this space is for.
you don’t owe anyone anything.
when you can give, you will. we trust you.
when you need help, you can ask.
that’s how care moves, cyclical like seasons.
that overwhelming pressure we feel
the guilt, fear, and overthinking — comes from a system that taught us to see help as a transaction and our worth as something to earn.
but here, we unlearn that.
we practice trust instead of judgment,
care instead of control rooted in anxiety & fear.
currently its a simple system i put together between gcash and a google form/sheets ledger within 15mins. (link in bio)
collectively, we can think up ways to make it accessible to as many people as possible or simply just replicate the system within your own friend group, family, or local community.
