MUTUAL AID REQUEST UPDATE:

my unhoused friend talked to a nice tindera that knew someone who had a space he could stay in for 2k for the month just so we could get him safe and off the street asap. (the dorm and a couple places wouldnt take him in because they had all kinds of bullshit requirements to prove whatever for whatever reason.)

thanks to the solidarity, unconditional kindness, and presence of a few people – (at the very least) tonight my friend sleeps in a safe space, clean clothes given by ate tindera, and finally has gotten to shower and nap for the afternoon.

will still be receiving mutual aid until we can find him a better living/working situation or secure rent for next month.

MUTUAL AID REQUEST UPDATE:

we're only a couple thousand off from getting him off the street and in a bed in a dorm. this is where he slept last night but was beat up by kids that hang around the area.

this is a call to the collective for mutual aid to get him a bunk in a dorm for 2100php/month (dorm requires minimum 2 months) and an additional 4300 for daily meals for a month so hes safe and off the streets while he tries to find work and rebuilds community.

this abandoned van is where my friend slept last night but tonight hes back to sleeping at a waiting shed. hes 21 and currently unhoused.

even on a smaller scale, I feel the same baseline shift moving between manila and bikol. It isn’t just geography. it’s class. its proximity to wealth, convenience, and instant gratification. that pull works like a drug, normalized and insidious like sugar or alcohol, easing us into complacency and dependence. its incapacitating. by @mhrlyka

sagipkapwa is a mutual aid fund that was started back in july within friends within my own personal network. it is open to all, with zero preconditions.

i decided to post a simple explainer because i’ve noticed in the past weeks how many people have been requesting while carrying the weight of guilt, shame, or the feeling of not being enough. it reminds me how far we still have to go in remembering that we are the ones meant to hold each other up in these difficult times.

this isn’t charity. it’s mutual aid.
charity often looks down,
while mutual aid looks across.

in charity, someone gives because
they “have more.”

in mutual aid, we share
because we all need each other at different times and acknowledge that tho uncertainty exists,
we face it arm in arm together.

in the past weeks, i’ve seen how hard it is for people to ask for help. the long explanations, the apologies, the promises to “repay the favor.”

but that’s not what this space is for.
you don’t owe anyone anything.

when you can give, you will. we trust you.
when you need help, you can ask.

that’s how care moves, cyclical like seasons.

that overwhelming pressure we feel
the guilt, fear, and overthinking — comes from a system that taught us to see help as a transaction and our worth as something to earn.

but here, we unlearn that.
we practice trust instead of judgment,
care instead of control rooted in anxiety & fear.

currently its a simple system i put together between gcash and a google form/sheets ledger within 15mins. (link in bio)

collectively, we can think up ways to make it accessible to as many people as possible or simply just replicate the system within your own friend group, family, or local community. by @mhrlyka
