“I was always curious and engaged with ideas and numbers. I was never that great at maths, funnily enough, and it took me really wanting to use maths as a way to get a better understanding of things before I clicked into gear with it.

The idea of [talking about economics] as a joke, or including the rhythm of a comedy skit as a way to deliver it, has been something that I’ve come to gradually. I think it’s okay for people to have fun with economics.

At its basic level, economics is like mass psychology. It’s why whole groups of people do things at the same time. I look at things like consumer sentiment a lot, which ends up being a temperature check of the whole country. It goes up, it goes down. I love looking at those things and trying to figure out what’s causing people to feel bad and what the impact of that is.”
