On October 10, France hosted Azerbaijan at the Parc des Princes in Paris for a Group D match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which ended in a 3-0 victory for France.

During the match, French-Armenians in the crowd displayed the flag of Artsakh and held up posters reading “Free the Hostages,” raising awareness about the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians illegally held in Azerbaijani jails. Azerbaijan has detained them for more than two years in violation of international law and continues to act with impunity for its war crimes and human rights abuses.

The Armenian youth mobilized to ensure the issue of Armenian hostages was seen and heard on an international stage, using the high-profile World Cup qualifier to call for justice and freedom for the captives. Stadium security later confiscated the Artsakh flags.

The match ended in a 3-0 victory for France.
