While we understand urgent posts can be upsetting, they are the daily reality for shelters and rescues everywhere.
Across Canada, everyone is over capacity. Every single day we face impossible deadlines, limited donations, no government funding, rising veterinary costs, and a constant stream of surrender requests - many of which could have been prevented with responsible pet ownership, proper training, and research before adopting or buying a pet.
Dogs are being abandoned faster than rescues can keep up. Backyard breeders continue producing litters for profit, and shelters have no empty kennels. Dogs lose their lives simply because there is no space.
When a shelter contacts us urgently, it’s because they have no other options. Municipal shelters are required to take in every stray, even when full, and transfers aren’t always possible. Dogs of every breed, size, and age end up abandoned - yes, even purebreds.
And here’s the truth: responsible rescues cannot intake without a confirmed foster. Without someone opening their home, our hands are tied.
Most of you may remember the GSD (Akalia) we posted for urgent help a couple of weeks ago. The shelter notified us only minutes before that post. Their time had run out, and staff were desperately trying to save a life. They never want to make these decisions. Often, the window is heartbreakingly short.
We share urgent posts not to shock or upset, but because it may be a dog’s last chance.
Before criticizing, please remember what happens behind the scenes. We are 100% volunteers, non of us are paid. We juggle full-time jobs, families, and our own pets. We show up every day because these dogs deserve a chance.
If you want to help, here’s how:
🐾 Foster
🐾 Adopt
🐾 Volunteer
🐾 Donate
Together, we can save lives and create meaningful change. Thank you to everyone who chooses compassion, understanding, and action. 💛
