Sitting all day? Shoulder pain and range challenges? 😣 Here’s something to think about: 🖤 Often people tell me their physio says they have shoulder problems because they have a “desk job”. Maybe! But our bodies are not separate from emotions. 👇🏽

Over-giving, exhaustion, fear, loss, grief, a broken heart, PTSD, CPTSD…many things in life can leave the heart feeling wounded, tired, and in need of protection. So we round, constrict, and restrict breath. 💔 Shallow breathing and lack of thoracic mobility and fluidity impacts overhead shoulder range.

So, there’s many reasons you might have sticky shoulders and limited range overhead. Move, breathe, find energy, and gently but persistently push your edges and fight for space and strength where you need it.

Movement should feel like medicine not punishment, and any movement is better than no movement. If you’re telling yourself that you need to find the perfect trainer or the perfect program before you can start, that’s BS. It’s YOUR body and if you listen, it will tell you what it needs to find freedom. AND…moving in community heals, too. Find a place to move where you LOVE walking through the door and settle for nothing less.

Morning medicine! ☀️😍 We can complain about pain or we can listen to it and use it as a compass. In 2017 my body started attacking itself in the midst of of mass levels of stress. As a movement coach, I tried to hide the reality that my hands and feet weren’t usable until about 10 am. I couldn’t fill the kettle in the morning and every step was excruciating. Doctors were talking about RA and lupus and telling me I’d be on meds for life and declining no matter what…until I visited an incredible gastroenterologist in 2019 who suggested massive lifestyle changes and nutrition amendments. After 8 weeks on a low FODMAP protocol, I was completely pain free and everything was different. This was just the start of an ongoing/complex healing journey but what I’ve learned so far is this:
✨ Pain, inflammation, even injuries - they’re messages asking us to pay attention, make some changes, and do some healing. We can meet this with curiosity or discouragement. We have to choose the brave path.
✨ We have to move. Every day. Massage yourself, breathe, walk outside, move however you’re able. Movement is medicine.
✨ Be really uncomfortable. If you struggle with inflammation, train way outside your comfort zone when you’re NOT in a flare. Ask more from your joints, challenge your stability, and lift heavier than you want to.
✨ Movement isn’t serious. I know that so many trainers are hyper-technical about movement, and maybe that’s great in its own way. But at the end of the day, movement should have elements of fire and play and wonder and gratitude.
✨ Refuse to wallow. Everyone’s body has challenges, and each of those challenges is a test and a chance to grow.
✨ Thank your body every day. It’s magical. It’s sitting here right now pumping blood, breathing, thinking, feeling…

When you thought you were heading to the other side of the world to learn from one special teacher, and end up with no less than ten. ✨✨ 🌎 ✈️ Following @theartofprocess Sacred Geometry Teacher Training on Mount Batukaru with some of the most dynamic and brave women I’ve ever met, some of us headed to Yogyakarta to study @stephanie.june.ellis’ analyses of Prambanan and Borobudur temples, 9th century Hindu and Mahayana Buddhist marvels like nothing I’ve ever seen or felt.

A chance to immerse ourselves in the literal art of process, and a reminder that mindful attention and connection to every part is what makes the whole, whole. In a western world that favours shortcuts and efficiencies and celebrates individualism, I’m so grateful for this chance to slow down, nurture each step, and reconnect with collective oneness. Steph, thank you for curating such worldview-shifting and healing experiences. This world is so blessed that you’re in it! 💛🌀

It’s baby Flo’s 10th birthday!!! 🎈🦴🐟🎁🎂 Flo celebrated with pup cups at @croftlandcafe in her best @crewbydesi kerchief with her sister, and nothing says birthday dinner like @performatrinpetfood doggie cannelloni! 🐟 🥩

Florence came home with Ava and me 9 years ago from way up north. This little rescued rez doggie is her own woman. She’s got no time for BS and generally has zero time for other pups until Sally came along, her best friend next to Ava. 💜✨ She’s cat-like and moody and hilarious and snuggly and we love her and can’t believe she’s 10 😭🙏🏽 Happy birthday Florence!

What’s your favourite breed? 🥹🖤🐕
I was at one of my favourite little shops in Québec this week and found myself in a conversation with a handful of gorgeous women sharing photos of our dogs. I think we all agreed…

The best breed of dog is whatever dog finds its way into your heart. They are all wise teachers. They are all soul friends. 🐕

Thank you Nathalie at @khewa_wakefield! 😍✨

“Remembering Ourselves Home.” ✨ Years ago, @missestie gave me the gorgeous book Belonging, by @tokopa. If you’ve read it, you know this is the book’s tagline and theme. ☘️ The words in this book literally felt like a remembering, an echo of yesses I felt in my cells.

Some friendships feel like a remembering. An Anam Cara. As I return from a September in Bali, I’m feeling grateful in my heart to those of you I’ve known for more than this one earthly lifetime. 50 was a very wild and lesson-filled year, and your friendship was medicine for my spirit along the way. 💖✨🙏🏽 Thank you. by @erinmoraghan

Every year we return to this little cabin in the bush au Québec. 🍎 The culture of food - growing, sharing, and celebrating food - for French Canadians is one of the things I remember most fondly about growing up here.

On our mountain walks, the apple trees are Crispy’s favourite stop for a snack, so we gathered a pocket-full and made a dog-friendly crisp you can try for your pups. We’ve savoured blackberries and mushrooms from the forest, gorgeous milk, cheese, and butter from the cows in the glen, honey and maple syrup from the corner, and the weekly farmers market is where everyone comes for so much more than food. Live music, a weekly book trade, little kiddos selling artwork and crafts, everyone enjoying coffee and community. The vegetables and herbs centre on cumtural diversity, and the smell of Indian, Mediterranean, and Ukrainian food is glorious. 🥕

As we get ready for the start of another school year at @nutritionforlearning in Ontario, I’m reminded that it’s no surprise Québec does school food so beautifully with the leadership of @breakfastclubcanada and so many regional partners. The culture of food here has always been about togetherness, belonging, and showing up for one another. I’m grateful to soak it all up this week and bring it home as we get ready to feed more kiddos than ever this school year.

I hope this weekend brings you analog connection with what’s real and nourishing, and please tag me if you make this recipe for your pups! 🦴 🐕 🍎 by @erinmoraghan

This week our hearts are full sending our little foster doggie Paddington to his forever home. 💛 Here from way up north and displaced by the wildfires, I’m certain in my heart that some wonderful human had to dig deep to send this little boy where he could have his best chance, because he was clearly a very beloved boy. Perfectly behaved, incredibly smart, extraordinarily funny and social, I can tell he’s been someone’s best friend for a long time. 💔 Thank you @safepawsanimalrescue.ont for your brave work, your team works so hard. 🙏🏽

I have to thank my family for always saying yes when I say there’s a dog coming home. 😭💖🙏🏽 We all fell in love with this little gentleman and are forever changed for knowing and loving him. You’re a blessed boy, and you deserve the love you have!

Please remember that over a thousand Ontarians are still displaced by the wildfires, which continue to burn. These are our neighbours and they need our support in whatever way we can offer it, even if it’s a prayer or kind thought. 🧡 🙏🏽 by @erinmoraghan

Know what’s going to save the world? 🌍 Art and women. 💖✨

@angelademontigny is a relentless world-shifter, community-builder, and alchemist of beauty. Follow her and watch her shape-shifting magic as one of the nation’s most important installation artists, fashion designers, and wellbeing revolutionaries. (Wellness has always been, after all, my favourite community art project.)

Such a glorious golden-hour moment of fun to model at her secret-garden trunk show with these GODDESSES after the full Buck Moon. 🌕

When women create, connection happens. Shifts happen. Magic happens. So here’s our reminder to support artists and each other. It’s the light we need to shine on the darkness of the world. ☀️

I loved twinning with you @mzz.j0rdan and loved meeting you even more. ✨ I also loved @missestie and @evelynmyrie in their mystical hand painted silks! by @erinmoraghan

Can you spot the little crescent moon? 🌙 ✨ On July 29th and April 12th, @animal_magic_oracle and I will be hosting MOON MAGIC 🌖🖤✨ at @thelunahomestead. We’ll move, breathe, and understand where the moon sits in our charts, and how to lean into her magic. No matter what life feels like right now, deeper connection with the universe and strong women is always the right medicine. Link in my bio to register. 🔗

Sending gratitude to the beautiful soul who flew this dragon 🐉 kite for hours today over my beach towel. ☀️ by @erinmoraghan

This incredible man was just eight years old when I first met him at the Paris Fair. 🎉 It’s been among the greatest gifts and honours of my life to be your family @bahoekstra17! ✨ I have no idea how you’re TWENTY 🎈 and yet here we are, marveling at your spirit of adventure, curiosity, kindness, and bravery.

You have become the kind of man anyone would be proud to know. You love nature, animals, exploration, and stretching your limits. 🏔️☀️🐕 You show up with integrity every day. Best of all, in a world that sometimes seems a little crazy, I can see that you are centred in your values and make this world better and safer by treating animals, nature, women, and all humans with care. This fills me with gratitude and pride. 💜 🌈

You are so loved Brayden! Happiest twentieth birthday to you, I love you so much. 🎈🎂✨ by @erinmoraghan

People worry about adding a dog to your pack because it’s more work, but have you ever had a dog who actually makes life smoother? 💖

Talk to your favourite trusted rescue about the dogs waiting for homes who are natural born sidekicks. The wing-women, right hands, and ride-or-die besties. Sal is one of these dogs. 💓🐾

Mustang Sally is a classic example of the kind of dog that gets overlooked in rescue. 🖤 We all know that black dogs are the last to be chosen. People think she looks intimidating. 😔 But little Sal is as gentle, kind, and in love with any dog. She spent far too long in foster care being overlooked in Texas, before @niagaradogrescue was able to get her home to us. Sally is a little shadow, quietly at your feet. No matter what you’re doing, she wants to be a little guardian at your side. She loves every dog she meets and shows her belly during any moment of uncertainty saying, “No trouble from me! I’m a gentle girl!”

Sally has actually created an EASIER life with our pack, she’s no trouble at all. She’s Florence’s very first dog-friend (Flo prefers people) and she is a grounding and comical sidekick to Crisp.

Thank you @theherbandhound for hosting a rescue-dog friendly celebration with this special chance to have a photo with @happypawspetstudio 📸

And if you’re thinking of adding to your pack, remember that good rescue organizations know how to match with a dog who suits your home and your existing pack. by @erinmoraghan
