Every year we return to this little cabin in the bush au Québec. 🍎 The culture of food - growing, sharing, and celebrating food - for French Canadians is one of the things I remember most fondly about growing up here.

On our mountain walks, the apple trees are Crispy’s favourite stop for a snack, so we gathered a pocket-full and made a dog-friendly crisp you can try for your pups. We’ve savoured blackberries and mushrooms from the forest, gorgeous milk, cheese, and butter from the cows in the glen, honey and maple syrup from the corner, and the weekly farmers market is where everyone comes for so much more than food. Live music, a weekly book trade, little kiddos selling artwork and crafts, everyone enjoying coffee and community. The vegetables and herbs centre on cumtural diversity, and the smell of Indian, Mediterranean, and Ukrainian food is glorious. 🥕

As we get ready for the start of another school year at @nutritionforlearning in Ontario, I’m reminded that it’s no surprise Québec does school food so beautifully with the leadership of @breakfastclubcanada and so many regional partners. The culture of food here has always been about togetherness, belonging, and showing up for one another. I’m grateful to soak it all up this week and bring it home as we get ready to feed more kiddos than ever this school year.

I hope this weekend brings you analog connection with what’s real and nourishing, and please tag me if you make this recipe for your pups! 🦴 🐕 🍎
