While The Symbol Had Put Us to Sleep, 2025
gouache on paper, 30x42 cm
*
Şevval Aksu (b. 2003, Istanbul) drawing inspiration from urban life in her artistic practice, creates narratives around the concepts of public space (outside) and privacy (inside), exploring and reimagining the boundaries between these two realms.
"Words, signs, and symbols become places of distraction, preventing an encounter with the true face of being. This series belongs to a time when representation has already turned into the very thing it represents, and the subject strives to reach being itself. These are dreams of perceiving the world once again purely through the senses — dreams of a pre-linguistic time."
