There was a time when I thought my story might end before it even began. 4 years ago, I fractured four teeth, broke both occipital condyle bones, and my mandible broke in half all due to vasovagal syncope. My jaw was shattered.
That moment could have left me broken in more ways than one. But instead, it gave me something greater… purpose. Dentistry wasn’t just something I admired anymore, it became real. I had lived through it. I had experienced the power of a restored smile, the strength of healing, and the resilience that comes when life tries to break you, but you refuse to stay down.
As a third-generation future dentist, I am proud to uphold the legacy of my family. My grandfather laid the foundation, my mother strengthened it with brilliance, and my late uncle Fleming, whose journey was tragically cut short during his D2 year, fuels my commitment to keep striving and never give up.
But I’ll be honest, this journey has not been easy. There were nights when I questioned myself. Days when rejection, failure, or silence felt louder than progress. Moments when I wondered if I had what it takes. Every setback was a setup. Every obstacle was shaping me into the man I am becoming.
To anyone who feels like giving up… DON’T. Your process is unique. Your timing is yours. Stop comparing your lane to someone else’s. Trust God. Trust the calling He placed inside of you. The very thing that tries to break you might be the very thing that builds you.
Now, as I step into 26 not just older, but wiser, stronger, and more aligned, I stand in the fullness of God’s grace. Another year of life. Another year of growth. Another year of answered prayers. This isn’t just a celebration of age… it’s a celebration of survival, resilience, purpose, and God’s timing. What once broke me became the foundation He rebuilt me on.
I have been accepted and will attend High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine.
Legacy continued. Purpose fulfilled.
And this… this is only the beginning.
