A historic discovery and one of the true holy grails of modern horology ⚠️. This Beta 1 revealed through high-resolution micro-CT 3D imaging (courtesy of @empa_materials_science 🙏), is one of only two known and the sole survivor from the batch that competed in the landmark 1967 Neuchâtel Observatory trials ranking 7th.

The quartz bar is highlighted in yellow and is still firmly suspended inside its vacuumed shell.

Currently part of an extensive scientific project in collaboration with @ethzurich , @fhnw.ch and @empa_materials_science.

More info and pictures to follow at irregular intervals (as usual) starting from January 2026 😅😬😇

Have nice end of the year festivities @watchfam 🥂⭐️

Fascinating, how did you make such 3d model? All this information sooner or later should be in watch museum all over the world as it's important part of watchmaking industry and history 👏

without an IC the discrete flip-flops for the division by 2 are clearly visible. 👏 the Junghans Astro-Chron from 1967 looks very similar to that, but in Clock-format; 🙌
