Was super excited to catch the ‘Lisa Yuskavage: Drawings’ exhibit
@themorganlibrary I have admired her work for years. It paired well with the ‘Renoir: Drawings’ exhibit that was showing as well.
Both artists place the female figure at the core of their work.
Yuskavage drawings explore nude portraiture, landscape and still life using a multitude of mediums to create a certain style and mood for each piece. Her figurative drawings echo the technique of the Impressionist masters such as Renoir and Degas but with a provocative, contemporary eccentric approach. The Morgan placing these two past and present exhibits together makes the viewer realize the historical continuity of the lineage of the European painterly tradition into a modern visual language. I thought it was brilliant for The Morgan to quietly stage that conversation. Yuskavage Drawings will be up until January and Renoir Drawings will be showing until February it will then move to the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.
