❤️ Interesting fact:

Great Expectations (1998) is a modern adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel, directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Ethan Hawke as Finn and Gwyneth Paltrow as Estella. The story follows a young artist whose childhood crush becomes an obsession as he tries to win the affection of a woman who was raised to keep people emotionally distant.

One interesting detail is that the film moved Dickens’ Victorian-era story to modern-day Florida and New York. Cuarón transformed the original English setting into a contemporary world filled with art galleries, wealthy estates, and coastal landscapes, while keeping the central themes of love, ambition, and social class. The movie also features a memorable supporting performance by Robert De Niro as the escaped convict known as Arthur Lustig.

The film’s striking visual style was shaped by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who used rich colors and atmospheric imagery to give the romance a dreamlike quality. Its soundtrack featured songs by artists such as Pulp and Tori Amos, helping give the classic story a distinctly 1990s feel.
