Friday, Jan. 30 is a nationwide shutdown/economic blackout in solidarity with communities impacted by ICE actions. (nationalshutdown.org)
Before anything else: this isn’t about party politics for us. It’s about basic humanity, dignity, and people being treated fairly. We’re not here to argue. We’re here to support peaceful, respectful civic action.
We support the intention behind the blackout, and we’ve thought hard about what that looks like for a small business in a small town. We’re choosing to stay open (10am to 7pm) as a safe, steady place for anyone who needs community right now, with no pressure to buy anything.
(If we do have any sales, 10% will be donated to vetted mutual aid and legal-support organizations helping families impacted by recent ICE actions.)
We’ll have:
• Postcards (some free, some for sale) to send your elected officials
• Free postage stamps with postcard purchases
• Simple scripts for postcards & phone calls to elected officials
• Free emergency whistles
• A puppy to play with! 🐶
Whatever your politics, I think most of us can agree on this: people matter, and we’re allowed to care out loud. If you’re not sure what to say, we’ll help you find words.
