They're just painting the building next door 🎉

We've got quite a few new faces around here, so we figured it's a good time to introduce ourselves! 👋

We're Inkwell Archives, an independent, family-owned and operated bookstore in downtown Middleville!

We share our space with Riverwalk Games, which means we're basically your one-stop shop for books, gifts, board games, puzzles, gaming dice, and more! Sooo you may want to keep us in mind when holiday shopping rolls around... wink wink, nudge nudge 👀🎁😂

On the Inkwell side, the overwhelming majority of our books are NEW, from brand-new releases to old classics and just about everything in between! Our primary focus is adult books across a variety of genres, but we also have dedicated Young Adult and Children's sections, plus a growing selection of used books.

You'll also find Blind Dates With a Book, squishy toys, trinket scoops, calligraphy sets, journals, cold beverages, candy, locally made goodies, bookish gifts, and plenty of other things we thought were neat and decided needed to live here. 😅

Don't see what you're looking for? We can special order books we don't currently have in stock! You can also preorder upcoming releases through our website so your copy is waiting for you when release day arrives. 📖✨

We're big believers in creating a welcoming space for our community, supporting local organizations and businesses, and generally finding excuses to get people excited about books.

If you're new here, WELCOME! 💛 Come wander around sometime. We're very happy you found us!

STORE HOURS

📚 Monday & Wednesday: 10am - 4pm
📚 Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 10am - 7pm
📚 Saturday: 10am - 9pm (We're here until 4pm, then Riverwalk Games takes over for game night from 4 - 9pm. You can still shop for books all evening!)
📚 Sunday: 10am - 4pm by @inkwellarchives

What if everyone in Middleville moved just ONE purchase a month from a big online retailer to a local business?

One book. One outfit. One baby or bridal shower gift. One video or board game. One gift card. One something you were going to buy anyway!

We've watched too many wonderful businesses come and go from Middleville. While there are many reasons that happens (it's tough out here!), our dollars have the power to make a HUGE difference.

You don't have to shop local for everything. But imagine the impact if thousands of us chose local just ONCE each month (or twice, I promise we won't stop you 😅).

Our dollars decide what kind of town we get to have! taken in Middleville, Michigan by @inkwellarchives

I'm still not entirely convinced tomorrow is actually the day... but if there's even the slightest chance, I refuse to be underprepared!

Unfortunately, my official invitation from them appears to have been lost in the mail, so we'll be celebrating at Inkwell instead. 💌✨

Come join us for cupcakes, friendship bracelets, and 13% off your purchase (bookstore items only)! taken in Middleville, Michigan by @inkwellarchives

We are terribly sorry we always forget Instagram exists. Trying to do better 😬

Anyway... Here’s a quick hours update for this chaotic week!

Tomorrow, 6/16, we’ll be opening at 12pm because we’ll be spending the morning at Stomping Grounds Play Cafe for their Lit Lounge Book Club. 📚

Then we will be closed Saturday and Sunday because we’ll be at the Grand Rapids Pride Festival all weekend with a booth!

Thanks for your patience with the schedule shift and our lack of a social media manager! by @inkwellarchives

By now, most people have heard the news: Inkwell Archives is moving to a new downtown Middleville location, and we’ll be reopening on April 18th. We truly love our current little shop, but we’ve outgrown what the space can give us. It's time to take a leap!

Our new building already feels like the next chapter we’ve been dreaming about: more space to browse, an accessible entrance, and ample parking so more people can comfortably visit, linger, and come back often. We’re building it to be more than a bookstore. We want it to be a gathering space for friends, families, and strangers who become friends. A cozy place to wander, discover your next read, and feel part of something.

Here’s the vulnerable part: asking for help is hard. But this community has taught us that it’s okay to ask, and it’s okay to let people be part of building something they care about. If you’d like to support the move (shelving, signage, inventory, décor, and all the little things that make a space feel like home), we’ve listed a few options below, including Thank You Mystery Boxes and an open contribution option (no gifts, just sincere appreciation). These can be purchased in-store or on our website. All Thank You Mystery Box items are available on our website and will be ready for pickup (or shipping) at our current location by March 29th.

No pressure, ever, just a very grateful thank you. We can’t wait to welcome you into the new space! taken in Middleville, Michigan by @inkwellarchives

🚨WEIRD HOURS ALERT🚨
Both of our kids have their Odyssey of the Mind tournament this Saturday, so our hours will be a little unusual. We will be *officially* open from 6pm to 8pm, but I may also open for part of the afternoon. If the open sign is on, please come in!
One day, I hope to get the whole town addicted to books so we can afford to hire some help! Until then… thank you for supporting a couple of working parents doing their best to make this dream work📚 by @inkwellarchives

Friday, Jan. 30 is a nationwide shutdown/economic blackout in solidarity with communities impacted by ICE actions. (nationalshutdown.org)

Before anything else: this isn’t about party politics for us. It’s about basic humanity, dignity, and people being treated fairly. We’re not here to argue. We’re here to support peaceful, respectful civic action.

We support the intention behind the blackout, and we’ve thought hard about what that looks like for a small business in a small town. We’re choosing to stay open (10am to 7pm) as a safe, steady place for anyone who needs community right now, with no pressure to buy anything.

(If we do have any sales, 10% will be donated to vetted mutual aid and legal-support organizations helping families impacted by recent ICE actions.)

We’ll have:
• Postcards (some free, some for sale) to send your elected officials
• Free postage stamps with postcard purchases
• Simple scripts for postcards & phone calls to elected officials
• Free emergency whistles
• A puppy to play with! 🐶

Whatever your politics, I think most of us can agree on this: people matter, and we’re allowed to care out loud. If you’re not sure what to say, we’ll help you find words. by @inkwellarchives

Read like it matters.
Because it does.
You’re in charge of what you learn and what you ignore.
