There the building that collapsed and killed everyone hiding in the basement. There's a plaque on the floor. Near what used to be Barclays Bank

Anti-aircraft shrapnel holes - They are created when antiaircraft guns fire high-explosive shells that detonate near a target, releasing a shower of metal fragments.

Doubt they are bullet holes, wouldn’t make any sense would it?

So were the German planes strafing the city centre w/machine guns/autocannons at night rather just dropping bombs?

An interesting fact about the City Hall. Construction started in 1903 and it took six years to build, it was built in complete sections from front to back, instead of the whole building being built from the ground upwards.

Didn’t realize it happened up north as well . Quite a common occurrence along the south coast “nuisance” raids. In quiet little Bridport a soldier was having a smoke outside his mums pub when he was killed by a German fighter. He had survived Dunkirk as well.
