9 months agoThe two are connected by a night by the sea, or at the harbor, or at least in Hamburg. When they met at a trade fair here in the Hanseatic city, they immediately realized that their palates appreciated similar fermented delicacies and that their views on viticulture and perhaps life itself align quite well. Andreas makes wine in Franconia. Everything started in 2017 in a small parcel at Pfülben. Meanwhile, he manages nearly 3 hectares in outstanding crus, prime locations. These are planted with old Silvaner vines, to which complete attention is dedicated. In Thüngersheim, a vineyard with Pinot Meunier on pure Muschelkalk from 1984 is cultivated. The Schwarzriesling that was bottled at pars pro toto 2023, by the way, is a perfect companion for oysters and thus also for the digestif of FrankenFreunde. Constantin works at the Höfflin winery. Not far from Freiburg, the team around Matthias Höfflin manages 18 hectares at the Kaiserstuhl. Alongside Matthias, Julius is now back in the family business after his studies and travels, bringing fresh ideas, international know-how, and a lot of drive. Andreas loves the volcanic Pinot Noir from Julius, which he enjoyed during a meal with Constantin in Hamburg, paired with a duck pizza. We’ve heard that a bottle of that will also be opened at our wine dinner. Both wineries seem to have excellent companions for the time after the tasting. And the fact that we can also taste the other creations from both of them beforehand makes us eagerly anticipate Sunday.
