What if it all works out?
In even more detail…
It sounds so simple. Almost naive.
But there is actually powerful science behind this question.
Our brains are wired with the negativity bias. From an evolutionary perspective, our nervous system learned to scan constantly for danger to keep us safe. The problem is that in modern life this ancient survival system often keeps us locked in cycles of worry, overthinking and worst-case scenario thinking.
When we repeatedly ask ourselves “What if this goes wrong?” the brain activates threat circuits. The amygdala signals danger, stress hormones increase, and the nervous system shifts into a protective state.
But when we intentionally introduce a new question — “What if it all works out?” — something interesting happens.
You begin interrupting the brain’s default fear pathway and opening up new neural possibilities. This simple reframe engages the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for perspective, problem solving and regulation of emotional responses. In other words, it helps move you out of survival mode and back into a more balanced, regulated state.
It’s not about blind positivity or pretending life is perfect.
It’s about gently reminding the nervous system that uncertainty doesn’t only hold threat… it also holds possibility.
This is a big part of the work I do.
When we combine subconscious work with nervous system regulation, we can start to change the internal questions our brain automatically asks. Over time this reshapes the patterns that keep us stuck in anxiety, self-doubt or fear.
And when those patterns shift, our whole experience of life can shift with them.
So today, if your mind is racing ahead to everything that might go wrong… pause for a moment and ask yourself:
What if it all works out?
You might be surprised how your body responds. 🤍 good luck and let me know how you get on ❤️
