i finally had the pleasure of dining at kappo dc last night. this spot has been on my list to try for a while now and i was not let down. they have certainly earned that michelin star. service, food & atmosphere were exceptional.
the restaurant offers an 8 course wagyu-centric tasting menu with 21 seats available. i came for the 9pm seating without regrets. it was personable and intimate as it was just me and a beautiful couple sitting beside me at the chef’s counter.
they announce and thoroughly describe every course that comes out; listing ingredients, where they come from & how they prepared each dish. i opted for the caviar add on($130). you may also add uni but the wagyu steak course came with a bit, which to my surprise i actually enjoyed even though i’m not the biggest uni fan.
the dishes that stood out to me the most were their wagyu yawata-maki, sashimi & wagyu steak. they would serve one piece of wagyu with ossetra caviar & the other with kaluga. i always found that the one with kaluga had a better taste. the palate cleanser on the spoon also stood out to me, it was very refreshing & did it’s job well.
the wagyu was so tender and just melts in your mouth. the sashimi was pristine & fresh. the dessert was fine, could have maybe been a bit more creative though. my only other small concern is that the spoon they give you for the miso soup gets really hot if you leave it in the bowl so be careful because i burned my tongue. 😂
other than that i had a lovely experience & will be coming back soon ❣️
