– Bill Viola at the Bourse de Commerce - Pinault Collection

Two major works by Bill Viola, ‘Fire Woman’ and ‘Passage into Night’, join Clair-Obscur at the Bourse de Commerce, open now. Drawing on some twenty modern and contemporary artists from the Pinault Collection, the exhibition traces a journey from darkness to light to explore the legacy of chiaroscuro as it resonates in the present day. 

Fire Woman depicts a dying man’s vision: a dark female silhouette moves through flames, opens her arms, and falls into her reflection, which breaks into glowing waves of light. Passage into Night unfolds with a lone figure slowly traversing a desert landscape, her presence appearing first as mirage, distorted by heat and light, before growing in clarity. Both works engage viewers in a meditative encounter with light, time and shifting perception.

The exhibition will be open until 24 August 2026.
