Not a whole lot to show for April, but here we go!
THE GOOD PLACE (2016-2020): I'd started this show several years back, but never finished. This is quick, low-effort binge material. Very cute, very funny, and very well-developed characters with great chemistry. The very last episode had me feeling sad and empty, like I knew I'd miss these characters very much after they're gone.
Shoutout Jason Mendoza, some of the best FilAm representation I'd seen. Really wish I'd been able to meet him at Collective Con but I blew all my money on the Peacemaker boys. At least he walked past us, like a foot away. Bortles! Sidenote: I was excited to recognize some of the minor character actors from "Search Party," one of my favorite shows!
THE SUBSTANCE (2024): I'm a little apprehensive to say that I put off watching this for a while because Margaret Qualley is one of those celebrities that inexplicably annoy the shit out of me. I know she's well-loved, and this is actually the first and only thing I've seen her in. Predictable plot, but I think it makes up for it stylistically-- I was engaged the whole time. I'm in love with the carpet, kitchen, and wide-open window in Elisabeth's apartment.
