Setup a baseball on the ground. Have the fielders chop their feet. Right Foot -> left foot -> catch. Under control.
❌ Common problems you’ll see with youth athletes trying this drill:
1. Their footwork will be incorrect. ie. Left right catch = wrong
2. Not under control
3. Fielding the ball under their eyes instead of in front.
Oftentimes missing groundballs comes down to improper footwork.
✅A few more checkpoints
• present the glove early, no late glove flips
• field the ball out front!
• footwork!!!
• be under control
Being able to repeat the same movements effectively is what makes fielders consistent. When the footwork is inconsistent, results will be as well.
