Profiling Michael — Three Depictions
16 × 20 in
Mixed media on repurposed leather.
This series explores the tension between what we reveal and what we conceal. Skin functions as both shield and surface, absorbing experience while recording it as a map of growth, struggle, and resilience. These moments shape our emotional DNA.
While ideals of beauty remain subjective, this work seeks a balance between exterior appearance and interior truth. Across three studies composed of repurposed leather fragments, the human figure is revisited, drawing on earlier practices while developing a new visual language through textiles.
Leather, used here as an unconventional canvas, becomes a fitting ground for this inquiry and offers a distinct lens. Marked, worn, and resilient, the material mirrors the human condition. Exposed textures and layered transparent paint emphasize both vulnerability and structure, allowing each subject to emerge with dignity and empathy.
