If you think that was hard to follow - try navigating cancer as a young adult while undergoing months+ of treatment while keeping your job even though your days are filled with appointments (assuming you have a ride to them (and/or can afford ride shares or hospital parking rates)and managing debilitating side effects or else you lose your insurance (or depend on a caregiver who is providing full time care to you and somehow needs to also keep up with work so that they can keep some source of income coming in and cover insurance), while trying to keep up with rent or mortgage and the keeps lights on — and if you have kids, somehow keep affording childcare and managing their schedules while you and your caregiver are at hours of appointments leaving — and if you don’t have kids yet, hopefully (only about ~40% are informed of this by their doctor before treatment) you’re able to access fertility treatment options before starting treatment that will likely leave you infertile (ps: if you’re a woman that’s going to cost you $10k up front (not to mention the thousands you’ll have to spend on storage and IVF/sureogacy/etc. down the road), that’s all assuming you have treatment options you need available need you - potentially you’ll have to travel to another city or state to access care that’s going to save your life (add that to trying to keep your job, caregiver be available to travel and keep a job, choose to either bring your kids and manage them in a new city while undergoing treatment (while protecting your immune system) or leaving them at home with a loved one and not seeing them for months or weeks, while somehow affording now 2 rents and/or mortgage or extended hotel stay, while fighting your insurance (assuming you have it) every step of the way because you’re too young and have to prove and fight every step of the way that you really need what the doctors say you need after having symptoms dismissed
