And breathe…
There is so much research out there on breath work having a positive impact on our mental health and well being. In my opinion, mastering parasympathetic breathing and being aware of which state you are in is key to reducing stress levels and improving life longevity. So how do we practice without over complicating it?
- Lie on your back with knees up, feet flat on floor or sit upright at desk with both feet on ground.
- Put one hand on your belly and one hand on your chest
- Inhale, belly rises and fills up the hand resting on it. Exhale belly falls, hand goes with it. Try make the exhale longer than the inhale.
- No breathing in the chest or shoulders (sympathetic state), only in the belly.
- Practice 5-10 breaths when you wake in the morning and at night to take you into sleep.
Enjoy the following benefits:
- Reduced anxiety/stress
- Improved digestion
- Enhanced focus
- Better sleep
