We wish double Paralympian Louis Lawlor all the best after announcing his retirement from competitive swimming today!
Bursting onto the international scene in 2019, Louis won a fairytale debut bronze medal in the S14 100m Backstroke at the World Para Swimming Championships in London 🥉
Two years later Louis qualified for the delayed Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, making the final of the 100m Backstroke and confirming his place as one of the best in his category worldwide 🌍
He would go on to appear at two more World Para Swimming Championships, in 2022 and 2023, placing in the top six of his favoured event, and adding the 200m Freestyle to his international repertoire📈
In 2024, Louis once again qualified for the Paralympics - with Paris to be his final international competition. He made yet another final in the 100m Backstroke, as he wrapped up his international career on the highest possible stage, in a new personal best time 🇬🇧
Strongly supported by his mum into swimming Louis started his journey with Temple Disability Swimming Club at Whitehill before moving on to City of Glasgow Swim Team. Louis progressed through the ranks at Glasgow under the tutelage of coaches such as Danielle Brayson and trained there through to his retirement ✅
He holds multiple Scottish records including: S14 100m Backstroke, S14 100m Butterfly and S14 100m Freestyle 🏴
