The level of burnout on tour now seems too high to sniff these records. And there is so much more parity now across the top surfers, it’s an amazing accomplishment to win an event let alone a title. Win more than one title in this era, and you’re really something. Two is the new five, five is the new ten.

No because we are never going to see the level of improvement like we had when Kelly and Steph came through, the level it’s at now can’t go much further making it more competitive

Steph is awesome, as are some other girls who were past winners. To set the pace in a somewhat fledgling sport is a little different to what Kelly has achieved and even his record would be difficult to make today. It’s always possible for someone else to come along and win more but as the training and coaching methods become more similar, to be a stand out becomes more difficult. Unless a single person comes up with a breakthrough board or type of surfing it’s hard to see these records broken.
