There is so much to unpack from this sequence but bear with me and you may find it interesting.Terepai had been getting barrels on the left alone all morning but even though he was getting some nice rights, he couldn’t get through the barrel section. This meant that most guys were on surge to get a makeable barrel, although some guys had a crack from further out on the peak without any luck.I told Harry when he rocked up that it was a bit sus from deep and he’d already been crushed on one gutsy attempt. This had been going on for hours.Anyway, when this guy took off from very deep I wasn’t sure he wasn’t going to suffer the same fate.As it turned out not only did he make the first one right on high tide, but he got joined by a pod of dolphins that came along.Now as I was editing I could actually make out another black spot moving in front of the dolphins which looks like a big fish getting chased. It was too small for a dolphin calf because at this time of year it would be 1.5m long.I don’t think you can make it out on these IG shots but in editing I can see it quite well.You can also see two guys get a front seat view of the barrel, the spit, the guy coming out and then the dolphins get air at the end.Everything, everywhere, all at once.Pretty cool I reckon. 😎🏄‍♂️ by @rowdstar

I thought I might post these shots of what it was actually like for the boys who paddled out the other day and why it was uncrowded.Most of the day was people dodging sets that were just too straight or even coming left at them.This meant guys were constantly duck diving, pulling back or taking some very sketchy waves in the danger zone. 😎🏄‍♂️ by @rowdstar

Haven’t had a beer since Easter when the alternator went on the Kiama bends coming home from the caravan.There wasn’t much surf down this way today compared to home so don’t be surprised if I don’t post a surf report for a couple of days.Even in the middle of winter with no one around there’s something about the south coast.Cheers. 🍺😎🏄‍♂️ by @rowdstar

Tuesday morning and the swell is the same direction as the last couple of days but another metre smaller.It still has some size and a decent amount of power but it’s pretty straight, which means it’s going to improve out front as the tide goes from a 7:30 low to a 2pm high.The tide has definitely made things better and bigger over the last few days but the bigger ones broke further out, which is helpful.If you’re keen for a surf the incoming tide will help the point early before the wind is expected to go NE again.Have a great day. 😎🏄‍♂️ by @rowdstar

Monday morning and the holidays are coming to and end with waves for the students and teachers to get all over.The swell is the same size and direction as yesterday but unlike the past week or so, we have good waves early.Lately there has been little to speak of in the mornings and improved throughout the day.I actually had a shocker yesterday as I drove out the Cape early to see how it was shaping up, only to forget that the Sutherland to Surf was on.As I returned they shut the road in front of me which meant I couldn’t get home and I had to drive all the way to Kirrawee before I found a break in the road blocks and get down south to home.It took a further couple of hours for the surf to improve and as I set up my camera Kippa got his best wave of the day and I missed it. Of course no other good barrels came through so I pulled my camera gear down only to have a pod of dolphins surf through the barrel at surge as soon as I packed up.Well, I was able to get these shots this morning because the World Cup Final is having more stoppages than the Pacific Hwy at Coffs Harbour.It’s well worth getting amongst the surf today.Have a great week. 😎🏄‍♂️ by @rowdstar

Sunday morning and after a quick msg from one of the lads I thought I’d take a run out the Cape to see if anything was happening.It didn’t look very good at home but with a 2-3m swell showing and a “westerly” wind, I had nothing to lose by going for a quick drive.Unfortunately, unlike a week or so back when things slightly improved I don’t think that will be the case today.The wind seems to have gone more to the south as attested to by the overpowering smell of diesel in the air but the ocean is very bumpy out here.If anything the point will probably be the better choice today.Have a great day. 😎🏄‍♂️ by @rowdstar
